Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year everyone!! 2007 is going to be a year to remember!!

Well 2006 is in the books and what a year. Every journey needs a starting point and 2006 has served as that for me. So many changes, so many wonderful memories.

2007 is all about taking the next step and I am looking forward to beginning my Winter semester of school, training with the UCTC and riding with the Speed Theory Cycling team. It is going to be a wonderful journey.

Last post of the month means it's time to tally my December totals. It was a great month of riding and running for me. In 3 weeks I "officially" start my 1/2 Ironman training program. Yipee!!

Happy New Year!!!!

Running in the Snow, so tranquil, so peaceful

Christmas has come and gone for another year and now it's time to get back to normality. Back to a normal diet sans:

wine
peanuts
chocolate
wine
pie

... did I mention wine? :)

We didn't get a white Christmas here in Calgary but the day after Boxing Day we did get some snow!

Thankfully the temp wasn't too cold this morning... a balmy -4c with light winds and snow!!.

The perfect time to enjoy a run along the Bow River and take in the beautiful scenery.

There is something magical about running during a snowfall.

Maybe it's the stark contrasts: The crunch, crunch of fresh snow under each stride, seeing the heat from each breath evaporate out into the chilled, peaceful air.

Days like today make me realize just how lucky it is to run.

LSD: 10 and 1's
Distance: 5.51 km
Duration: 44 min
AvHR: 129 (66% MHR, zone 1)

Recovery Ride:
Distance: 6.65 km
Duration: 20 min
AvHR: 103 (53% MHR, < zone 1)

It really didn't hit me until today just how much things.. how much I have changed this past year.

I have so much to be thankful for right now.

Flach - Schwimmer!

Yesterday I did my first pool session in over 2 months! It was a pretty low brow workout and primarily focused on some TI drills (sweet spot, fish etc) to gain a "feel" for the water again.

I must say, even though I felt like a total n00b, it was so good to get wet again and I'm really looking forward to the UCTC swim workouts this winter.

I will be one happy Triathlete come April if I can get my 100m splits consistently less then 2 min.

Less then 3 weeks until the new UCTC session begins!

Saweet!

Man, I can't believe how quickly Christmas vacation is going. I've spent the past week relaxing, unwinding and getting some quality saddle time on the Soloist in my living room. It's a pretty decent set up. I can watch SportsCentre on the tele or catch up on The Young and the Restless =p.

One final thought, I did my LSD run today. Longest duration I've done since May.

Feeling pretty good tonight but I'm hungry as! Pita Christmas diner is still a few days away! hehe

Duration: 1 hr 30 min
Distance: 10.5 km
AvHR: 133 (68% MHR, zone 2)

Christmas Vacation = 3 weeks and a wake up

Had my last final yesterday and now I get to look forward to 3 weeks of Christmas Vacation!

YIPEE!!

So what shall I do with all this free time...... hmmmm

Swim
Bike
Run

Yeah I like the sound of that.

After a two month break I plan to hit the pool a few times over the holidays, mostly to practice some TI stuff so I'll at least have a "Feel" for the water when I start swimming with the UCTC in January.

Bike, bike and bike. Now that I have my Soloist set up on the trainer I plan on riding heaps over the break. Did a very nice 41km ride 5km brick workout on Sunday.

Run. Finally now that I've left Lululemon and not standing for hours on end my legs can handle running more frequently again.

Quick stats for December

Body comp:
Weight: 81.4 kg
BF %: 8.1

Training totals for December (up to the 14th)
Swimming: ! meters - 00:00:00
Biking: 231.83 kilometers - 09:15:00

Final today!

I have a final exam in about 2 hous but wanted to do a quick update.

As mentioned earlier, I started riding on my fluid trainer this past weekend and have continued to do so during the week.

Yesterday's workout:
Bike:
Distance: 26.79 km
Duration: 60 min
AvHR: 127 (65% MHR, zone 1)

Run: (bloody cold out!)
Distance: 3 km
Duration: 23 min
AvHR: 133 (68%, zone 2)

I'm finding (as I'm sure many of you do too) at the one hour mark on the trainer I start to get a little bit crazy.

What can I do to help pass the time.. hmm what can I do.... oh I know!! I can watch Degrassi the Next Gen on DVD!

It's all about the Brick baby

Ahh I love Sunday mornings. The weather has warmed up a tad here so an outdoor run was in order.

Quick aside: I am a fair weather runner. If it's colder then -10C then it's the treadmill pour moi! :)

Today was a balmy -2C and sunny skies so after about an hour spinning on my fluid trainer (god it felt SO good to sit on my Soloist again!) I put on a few layers and headed outside for a run.

Sunday Brick: 1 hr 35 min
Bike:
Duration: 1 hr
Distance: 25.2 km
Run:
Duration: 35 min
Distance: 4.52km
AvHR: 131 (67% MHR, zone 2)

I really need to start focusing on my running milage as my November totals indicate: Work really took a heavy physical and mental toll on me during November. The human body was not meant to stand for hours on end.

I had to start somewhere and overall, returning to work has been a great experience and this time will serve me well when I start my "real" career in September.

I intend to do a bit of swimming on my own after my last final (Dec 12th!) to prep myself for the UCTC.

Here are my toals from last month.

Tri on!

November Totals:
Swimming: 0 meters - 00:00:00
Biking: 326 kilometers - 13:54:00
Running: 20 kilometers
