too much wine = whine

I ended my reading break with a night of drinking copious amounts of red wine. This is unfortunate for two reasons.

1) I hardly ever drink thus I am a total light weight and usually after a couple of glasses I'm under the table.

2) Reason #1 sort of made me sleep in this morning... if you call getting up at 9am sleeping in! LOL...

I did manage to get in 1/3 of my planned Sunday workout.

Yet again another date with my best mate (CycleOps) for a 3 hr spin:
79 km
AvHR: 122 (62% MHR, zone 1)

Energy levels were a bit low and I had a headache so I bailed on the brick run. I also decided to bail on the swim to give my shoulder another day to rest.

In my last Massage Tech class we were learning how to work on Teres Major and the Lats. My partner went a bit too deep on me and fired up the tendons of insertion of said muscles.

It was very painful to medially rotate and extend my right shoulder and arm which didn't bode well for my swimming workouts. Last Sunday I had to cut my swim short because my shoulder hurt too much so I've been out of the pool ever since.

I'll start up this Tues with my swimming again and things should be fine. The shoulder feels good but a few extra days of rest out of the pool isn't going to kill me.

This week I have 16.5 hrs scheduled on top of a few midterms and an oral presentation. It's going to be a fun week! Weather should be nice too so may be able to get some outdoor rides in.

Swim 4:00 hrs
Bike 7:30 hrs
Run 3:30 hrs
Weights: 1:30 hrs

Epic Hump Day

I'm taking advantage of my reading break and getting in some solid training hours. Today was brilliant.

Man I am so fired up!

Absolutely epic Wednesday!

LSD Run (at sunrise!!).
Longest run outside since being hit in '98. New PB!!

Distance: 12.02 Km
Duration: 1 hr 35 min
AvHR: 135 (69% MHR, zone 2)

Recovery spin:
Distance: 16 km
Duration: 55 min

I felt so good during the run and the recovery ride afterwards really helped to flush the shite out of my legs.

Tomorrow is another big day, 1 hr ride (on my best mate: CycleOps), 45 min H20 run then my private swim lesson. We're still working on the pull/push phase of my stroke.

On a totally unrelated matter, I left a recent issue of Triathlete Magazine in the bathroom and now I can't find it... who the hell swiped it!!!!

Reading Week: And there was much rejoicing

SO excited!

Reading week has arrived and there was much rejoicing!!!!!..... with it comes warmer temps, sunshine and that "hint" of spring.

This past week has been an R&R week for training. It took me a few days to fully recover from my LSD last Wed so I've welcomed the rest.

This weeks training only consisted of:
Mon: Weights
Tues: day off
Wed: LSD: 45 min (< zone 1) embarrassingly slow
Thurs: Swim 1500m (Private Coaching session) worked on the pull/push phase of the stroke
Fri (today) : weights, 1 hr spin class
Sat: Ashtanga Yoga 1.5 hrs
Sun: 2.4 km swim, 1.5 hr bike

On Monday I begin week 5 of base phase training.

It's going to be a solid volume week, 15.5 hrs worth so I am glad to have some free time being out of class.

Gotta do some "reading" though! :)

With all the sunshine today it feels like spring is just around the corner.. yeah baby!

I've developed a close relationship with my fluid trainer

It's been quite awhile since my last update!

School's been pretty full on these past couple of weeks and I've been feeling a tad run down trying to balance it all.

Instead of "pushing" through it, this early into my base training, I decided to take a few recovery days this past week and just allow the body and mind to settle.

It turned out to be a good decision because on Wednesday I reached a new PR for my LSD run... about 12 km!!! This is the longest I have ever run.. ever... since being hit and even though I incorporated 10 and 1's into the run, my legs and especially my left foot were pretty sore the next day. I took Thursday and Sat as full recovery days.

Saturday is my clinical practicum day so I really didn't get a chance to rest as I gave 4 hrs of massages that morning. It was great experience though. I love my clinical practicum!

The weather was really crappy out today, very cold and snowing so I opted to do a long 3 hr ride on my trainer (my new best friend!) and watched Lost: Survivor Gude and the new episode of Lost taped from last Wed night.

Monthly totals thus far: *incl 40 min H20 running*
Swimming: 3650 meters - 01:25:00
Biking: 201.2 kilometers - 07:45:00
Running: 16.02 kilometers
- 02:40:00

Tomorrow I begin week 4 of base training, my "step back" week. I may tweak it a bit and incorporate some light riding on Tues and Thurs, pending how my legs are feeling.

One more week until Reading Break. SaWEET!
